Basic CDCP Eligibility Rules
To be eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan, you generally need to meet all of the following:
- You are a resident of Canada for tax purposes.
- You filed your tax return for the previous year (and so did your spouse or common-law partner, if you have one).
- Your adjusted family net income is under $90,000.
- You do not have access to dental insurance, for example through an employer, a pension or a professional plan.
Eligibility rules and age groups are set by the Government of Canada and can change. Always confirm the current rules on Canada.ca.
How to Apply for the Canadian Dental Care Plan
- Apply with the Government of Canada, online through Canada.ca or by phone. Have your Social Insurance Number and your tax information ready.
- Wait for your enrollment letter. Once approved, you receive a welcome package from Sun Life, the company that administers CDCP.
- Note your coverage start date. Treatment before that date is not covered.
- Call our clinic at (226) 898-3848 with your member ID to book a consultation.
We cannot apply for you, but we are happy to explain the denture side of your coverage and help with the forms we submit to Sun Life.
What to Bring to Your First CDCP Visit
Your Member Card
The Sun Life CDCP card or your member ID number.
Photo ID
Any government photo ID, so we can match your file.
Your Current Denture

Already Have Coverage? Book Your Denture Consultation
Once you are enrolled, the next step is a free denture consultation. We check your mouth, recommend the right denture and confirm how much CDCP pays. See the full list of dentures covered by CDCP.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use CDCP if I have dental insurance at work?
Generally no. CDCP is for residents who do not have access to dental insurance. If you have access to a private plan, even if you chose not to enrol, you are usually not eligible.
How long does CDCP approval take?
It varies. After the government approves your application, Sun Life mails your welcome package. Your coverage start date is in that letter.
Can the denture clinic apply to CDCP for me?
No. You apply with the Government of Canada. Once you have your member ID, our clinic handles the claims and any preauthorization for your dentures.
